Echo of Emotions (2022) is a very fluid and well composed abstract painting; it features two flowing red lines; one in the foreground and one in the background. They have been contrasted with a dark blue and slightly violet background and the two swirling lines against this creates a rhythm that moves between meditative peace and tension. This relates to the turbulence felt during periods of transition.
The two swirling lines look like sound waves, giving the work a slight transient feel as they move and giving an emotional intensity. As these waves move- they seem to take on the metaphor of transformation against the dark blue, which seems to suggest a challenge against the red waves. These elements of movement within the work also invite the viewer to compare themselves to the wave. To understand that their lives go through transformations, to reflect on everything, and to understand that there is harmony and resolution in the end.
The Courage (2022) continues these wave-like movements of transformation. In this work, however, an orange wave splits slightly in the middle into a yellow section. This wave has dimensional depth- suggesting the the yellow section is an exposed part. Thus, we understand that this is the part of the wave (which is a metaphor for humanity) which has its protection stripped as it shows its vulnerability, thus making the wave authentic.
The painting is warm and soft, contrasted against the deep blue, which grounds the work and creates movement. These colours are calming and showcase the emotions- the orange hides and protects our inner emotions- yet it gives way to the yellow, which implies our strength and vulnerability. The wave thus transforms to power through and be strong through sharing its vulnerability; it thus invites the viewer to share their vulnerabilities and transform with the work.
Together, both works create a transformative journey in our lives in that it is okay to discover yourself and be vulnerable as it is a form of strength, not weakness. Everyone shares these emotions, and by connecting them to the work- the two pieces have successfully captivated the viewer and allowed them to reflect upon their own emotions and vulnerabilities and to give confidence to them.
